Frequently asked questions

How is stock tracked?
As movements, not as a number somebody edits. Every receipt, issue, return, transfer and adjustment is a document with lines, and the quantity on hand is calculated from them. An issue larger than what is on the shelf is refused rather than recorded, so stock never goes negative.
Does issuing a part charge it to the asset?
Yes. A part issued to an asset or a work order is taken from stock oldest first and posted to the cost of that asset at what the stock actually cost, in the same step. Stock received without a price is shown as uncosted rather than counted as free.
What happens when a stock count disagrees with the system?
You post the count, and Solmex records the difference as its own adjustment with a reason, so it stays visible. If stock moved between printing the count sheet and posting it, the sheet is refused with both figures shown, instead of silently undoing that movement.
Do bins and shelves have labels?
Yes. Stores, aisles, racks and bins are set up as a tree, and both locations and parts print QR labels. A storeman finds a part by scanning a label with a phone rather than remembering which shelf it is on, and each bin shows the parts stored in it.
